- When a web application initiates an API call, a preflight request is triggered by the browser before the actual API request. The browser only initiates the preflight requests when the web application and API have different origins.
- XecureAPI gateway intercepts the preflight request initiated by the browser and makes decisions based on the cors configuration.
- In the XecureAPI gateway, you can configure which origin will be allowed. Additionally, you may also configure things such as allowed headers in requests, cache age for preflight response, etc.
- If the API call violates any CORS configuration then the browser doesn't send the actual request. By prohibiting illegal cross-origin requests and ensuring adherence to specified CORS regulations, protects against potential security concerns.
